Escape and rescue plans clearly show the escape and rescue routes in a building or on a floor. In addition, they indicate fire protection and first aid facilities. According to § 4 of the Workplace Ordinance as well as ASR A1.3, A2.2 and A2.3 (Technical Rules for Workplaces), the creation and installation of escape and rescue plans is mandatory for commercial and public buildings.
But who is allowed to draw up escape and rescue plans? And how often must escape and rescue plans be updated?
Who is allowed to draw up escape and rescue plans?
In principle, any person may draw up escape and rescue plans, provided that they have a sound knowledge of DIN ISO 23601 and DIN ISO 7010 as well as preventive fire protection as a whole. In addition, the plans should be drawn up using professional software, i.e. a CAD programme.
The background to this is that escape and rescue plans must be planned, created and updated carefully and in accordance with standards.
Recommendation: It is generally advisable to commission established specialist companies with the creation and updating of the plans. This ensures professional and legally compliant implementation. Subsequent updates can also be carried out quickly and without any problems.
